Grade is a Canadian hardcore punk band originating from Burlington, Ontario. The group is widely recognized and credited as key pioneers in the music scene for their innovative approach of blending the heavy elements of metallic hardcore with the raw, intense emotion of emo. Most notably, they are celebrated for developing and utilizing an alternating screaming and singing vocal style. This dynamic vocal delivery would later become highly popularized by prominent mainstream bands such as Thursday and Taking Back Sunday.\n\nFormed in the year 1994, Grade initially found their musical inspiration in established hardcore bands of the era, specifically Integrity and Chokehold. However, their artistic direction underwent a significant evolution the following year. By 1995, the band members had discovered the music of Indian Summer and Rye Coalition. This discovery prompted them to begin developing the signature sound and emotional style for which they would ultimately become best known in the alternative music community.
