Arthur Roy Ainslie is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2014. Prior to his national service, he was a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature from 1994 to 1999, elected during South Africa's historic first post-apartheid elections.\n\nBefore entering legislative politics, Ainslie earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Cape Town. During the apartheid era, he was active in liberal white political organizations, serving as a leader of the National Union of South African Students (NUSAS) in the 1970s and later joining the Democratic Party.\n\nDuring his tenure in the National Assembly, Ainslie represented the KwaZulu-Natal constituency and secured re-election in both 2004 and 2009. Beginning in 2010, he took on the role of the ANC's whip in the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, concluding his parliamentary career in 2014.
