Percy Allen (1872–1959) was a British writer, journalist, and scholar who dedicated much of his career to the study of Elizabethan theatre. Working as both a journalist and an author, Allen developed a deep interest in the history and staging of early modern English drama, which ultimately led him to investigate the origins of the plays traditionally attributed to William Shakespeare.
Through his writings, Allen became one of the prominent proponents of alternative authorship theories. He is best known for his advocacy of the Oxfordian theory of Shakespeare authorship, which posits that Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, was the actual writer of the canon. In connection with this, Allen also championed the Prince Tudor theory, further developing these controversial historical hypotheses within the authorship debate community.
