James Brown Armour (1841–1928), commonly known as J. B. Armour, was an Irish Presbyterian minister who played a distinct role in the political and social history of Ulster. He is remembered for his efforts to mobilize Protestant opinion in the north of Ireland toward progressive reform, challenging the traditional conservative alignments of his community.\n\nArmour was a vocal advocate for tenant rights, actively campaigning against the system of landlordism that dominated rural Irish life. In his later years, his political advocacy shifted toward the constitutional question of Irish governance. He emerged as a supporter of Irish Home Rule, arguing in favor of an Irish national parliament and speaking out against the threatened unionist resistance to such self-governance.
