Mikhail Petrovich Artsybashev was a Russian writer and playwright who emerged as a major proponent of naturalism. Born in 1878, Artsybashev established himself as a significant literary figure of his era. He was also notable for his family connections, being the great-grandson of Tadeusz Kościuszko. His son, Boris Artzybasheff, would later emigrate to the United States and achieve renown as an illustrator.\n\nFollowing the political upheaval of the Russian Revolution, Artsybashev's life underwent a major transition. In 1923, he emigrated from Russia to Poland. He remained in Poland until his death in 1927, leaving behind a legacy closely tied to the development of naturalist drama and fiction.
