Benjamin Shotwell was a member of the Shotwell family, who were among the early settlers of "The Plains," an early historical designation for the area of Plainfield, New Jersey.
Shotwell is associated with the historic Benjamin Shotwell House, also known as the Shotwell–Runyon House, located in Edison, Middlesex County, New Jersey. The house was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1938 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987 for its significance in architecture, exploration, and settlement.
