Julia Burnelle Smade "Bernie" Babcock was an American writer active during the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Born in Union, Ohio, on April 28, 1868, she eventually relocated to Arkansas, where she spent a significant portion of her life and career before passing away on Petit Jean Mountain on June 14, 1962.

Over the course of her literary career, Babcock was exceptionally prolific, authoring more than forty novels. In addition to her extensive fiction writing, she contributed widely to journalism and public discourse through numerous essays and newspaper articles.
