Robert Michael Ballantyne (1825–1894) was a Scottish author who wrote extensively for young audiences. Over the course of his career, he produced a substantial body of work that included more than one hundred books of juvenile fiction.\n\nIn addition to his literary pursuits, Ballantyne was an accomplished visual artist. He worked with watercolors and achieved recognition for his art, exhibiting several of his watercolor paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy.
