Helen Brodie Cowan Bannerman (née Watson) was a Scottish writer who dedicated her literary career to children's literature. Born in 1862, she is remembered for her contributions to the genre during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.\n\nShe is best known for her first book, Little Black Sambo, which was published in 1899. Bannerman passed away in 1946, with her debut work remaining her most recognized and famous publication.
