Matthew Henry Barker (1790–1846) was an English writer, journalist, and editor whose literary work was deeply informed by his experiences as a sailor. Active during the early nineteenth century, Barker transitioned from a life at sea to a career in letters, where he established himself as a creator of sea tales.
In addition to his fiction and maritime narratives, Barker worked professionally as a journalist and newspaper editor.
