John Stewart Barney (1867–1925) was an American architect and painter who operated in New York City. Over the course of his career, he established key professional partnerships that contributed to the architectural development of the region.

Barney's notable collaborative efforts included the firms Barney and Chapman and Barney & Colt. Through Barney & Colt, he was responsible for the design of the Emmet Building. Among his other enduring architectural designs is Dorwood, the Victor Emanuel estate situated in Manhasset, New York.
