Eaton Stannard Barrett (1786–1820) was an Irish poet and writer who gained prominence in the early nineteenth century for his sharp political satires and humorous prose. Born in Ireland, Barrett developed a literary career that engaged directly with the cultural and political currents of his time, utilizing verse and narrative to critique contemporary society.\n\nHis most enduring contribution to literature is The Heroine, a comic novel published in 1813. The work is celebrated as a brilliant mock-Gothic satire that parodied the sensational romantic fiction popular during the Romantic era. Through his poetry and prose, Barrett established himself as a notable satirist of his generation before his early death in March 1820.
