Walter Bates (1760–1842) was a British citizen who lived in colonial New Brunswick. Active during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, he is remembered for his contributions to the early literary landscape of the region.
Bates achieved recognition for writing a popular book detailing the life and exploits of Henry More Smith, a notorious criminal of the era. His written account captured the public's imagination and remains a historical point of interest for colonial-era narratives.
