Born Elizabeth Louisa Moresby in 1862 in Queenstown, Cork, Ireland, she developed a highly versatile writing career that spanned multiple genres. She became well-known for her novels, short stories, biographies, and esoteric books, which she published under a variety of different names to suit her diverse literary outputs.

Throughout her career, Beck utilized several distinct pseudonyms, most notably L. Adams Beck, E. Barrington, and Louis Moresby. She also published under variations of her own name, including Lily Adams Beck, Elizabeth Louisa Beck, Eliza Louisa Moresby Beck, and Lily Moresby Adams. This practice allowed her to segment her work across different thematic lines, from historical and biographical narratives to spiritual and esoteric subjects. Her life and career eventually took her to Asia, and she passed away on January 3, 1931, in Kyoto, Japan.
