Roy Leslie Bennett was a prominent Zimbabwean politician and a key figure in the country's opposition movement. Born in 1957, Bennett initially served as a member of the British South Africa Police before transitioning into politics. He became a member of the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe, representing the constituency of Chimanimani, where he earned the affectionate local nickname "Pachedu," meaning "Amongst Us."

As a dedicated member of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) led by Morgan Tsvangirai, Bennett served as the party's Treasurer and was later elected to the Senate of Zimbabwe. He was one of only three white parliamentarians elected during the highly contested 2000 Zimbabwean parliamentary election, securing his seat despite widespread intimidation against MDC voters by supporters of the ruling ZANU-PF party.

Bennett's political career was marked by severe personal and political challenges under the regime of President Robert Mugabe. During the 2000 election campaign, his farm was targeted, and his pregnant wife was physically assaulted by ZANU activists, resulting in a miscarriage. Although he was later designated to become the Deputy Minister of Agriculture in a coalition government, President Mugabe refused to swear him into office. Bennett passed away in 2018.
