Elizabeth Green Davey Birkmaier was an American writer and clubwoman active during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born on March 31, 1845, she lived during an era when women's clubs played a significant role in the social and literary life of the United States, providing a platform for female writers and intellectuals to engage with contemporary ideas.\n\nBirkmaier's primary literary legacy rests on her 1892 novel, Poseidon's Paradise. Subtitled "The Romance of Atlantis," the work is an early example of speculative fiction centering on the legendary lost continent of Atlantis. Through this work, Birkmaier contributed to the popular late-nineteenth-century literary interest in ancient myths and lost civilizations. She passed away on December 30, 1912.
