John Stuart Blackie (1809–1895) was a distinguished Scottish classical scholar and man of letters who dedicated his career to the advancement of academic study in Scotland. Recognized as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE), Blackie was a prominent intellectual figure of his era.
His academic career was highlighted by prestigious appointments at two of Scotland's leading universities. He first served as the Professor of Humanity at the University of Aberdeen from 1839 to 1852. Following this tenure, he was appointed Professor of Greek at the University of Edinburgh, a position he held for three decades from 1852 until 1882.
