Born in Cooperstown, New York, in 1890, she held dual citizenship in both the United States and Canada. She pursued her education in Nova Scotia, attending the Halifax Ladies' College and the Halifax Conservatory of Music, which shaped her early intellectual and creative development.

Throughout her writing career, Bonner focused on making complex or specialized topics accessible to children. Her literary contributions spanned history, nature, and sports. Among her notable works is Canada and Her Story (1942), which provided young readers with a concise and accessible history of Canada. She also authored Courier of the Sky, a book about pigeons, and the Big Baseball Book for Boys, demonstrating her versatile ability to write on diverse subjects ranging from ornithology to athletics. Bonner passed away in New York City in 1974.
