Anne Lucy Bosworth Focke was an American mathematician and educator who achieved significant milestones for women in academia during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in 1868, she dedicated her life to the study and instruction of mathematics, breaking barriers in both American higher education and international research circles.

Bosworth Focke is historically recognized as the first mathematics professor at the institution now known as the University of Rhode Island. Her appointment marked a foundational moment for the university's mathematics department and demonstrated her capability as a leading academic of her era.

Beyond her instructional career, she sought advanced academic training in Europe, where she became the first female doctoral student of the renowned German mathematician David Hilbert. Through this association, she secured her place in the history of mathematical scholarship before her death in 1907.
