Martha "Mattie" Griffith Browne was an American novelist and suffragist active during the nineteenth century. Born in 1828, she dedicated her literary efforts to the abolitionist cause, using her writing to campaign against the institution of slavery.

In addition to her anti-slavery novels, Browne was an active proponent of women's rights, aligning herself with the American suffrage movement. She continued her advocacy and literary work until her death in 1906.
