Robert William Browne (1809–1895) was an English clergyman and academic who served as the Archdeacon of Bath during the Victorian era. Born in Southwark, Browne pursued his higher education at St John's College, Oxford. Following his graduation, he entered the ministry, being ordained as a deacon in 1832 and as a priest in 1833. He remained closely associated with St John's College for several years, serving first as a Fellow and subsequently as a Tutor until 1839.
In 1839, Browne transitioned from Oxford to continue his academic pursuits abroad, studying for a PhD at the University of Heidelberg. His later career was marked by prominent ecclesiastical appointments within the Church of England. He was appointed the Archdeacon of Bath in 1860, a position he held for thirty-five years. Additionally, he served as the Rector of Weston-super-Mare starting in 1862 and was made a Canon of Wells Cathedral in 1863. He passed away on December 13, 1895, in Wells, concluding a long career dedicated to both education and the church.
