Orestes Augustus Brownson (1803–1876) was a prominent American intellectual, activist, preacher, and labor organizer whose career left a significant mark on the religious and political landscape of nineteenth-century America. Operating as a prolific writer and publicist, Brownson engaged deeply with the major intellectual movements of his era, most notably through his early association with the New England Transcendentalists.
