Algirdas Jonas "Algis" Budrys was a Lithuanian-American science fiction author, editor, and literary critic. Born in 1931, Budrys developed a multifaceted career within the speculative fiction genre, writing both under his own name and through a variety of pseudonyms. His pen names included Frank Mason, John A. Sentry, William Scarff, and Paul Janvier. He also wrote under the joint pseudonym Alger Rome in collaboration with fellow author Jerome Bixby.\n\nIn addition to his writing, Budrys was an influential figure in science fiction editing and criticism. During the 1990s, he expanded his editorial footprint by serving as both the publisher and editor of the magazine Tomorrow Speculative Fiction. Over his decades in the field, Budrys established a reputation as a versatile creator and dedicated curator of speculative prose before his passing in 2008.
