Robert Jones Burdette was an American humorist and clergyman of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He achieved literary recognition primarily through his written contributions to The Hawk Eye, a newspaper based in Burlington, Iowa, where his paragraphs earned him a distinct reputation as a humorist.
In addition to his career in writing and humor, Burdette was an ordained clergyman. He was also the brother of Mary G. Burdette. Born in 1844, Burdette spent his life balancing his religious ministry with his secular writing, remaining a notable figure in American journalism and faith until his death in 1914.
