Born in August 1841, Castle's early career was marked by his service as a captain in the Union Army during the American Civil War, a pivotal period in United States history.\n\nFollowing his military service, Castle transitioned to civilian life, where he built a career as a lawyer and became involved in politics. His civic leadership and developmental initiatives in the state of Minnesota led to his most enduring legacy: the founding of the town of North St. Paul.
