John Lee Chapman was a nineteenth-century American politician and businessman who played a prominent role in the civic and industrial development of Baltimore, Maryland. Born in 1811, Chapman is best remembered for his tenure as the Mayor of Baltimore, serving in this leadership position from 1862 to 1867.\n\nIn addition to his political career, Chapman was an active figure in the region's business and transportation sectors. He operated the Maryland Glass Works, a manufacturing enterprise based in Baltimore, and served as the president of the Western Maryland Railway, contributing to the expansion of the area's infrastructure before his death in 1880.
