Henry Roland, who also performed under the name D.D. Roland, was an American daredevil and "human fly" active during the early twentieth century. He gained widespread recognition for his public exhibitions of free climbing, scaling the exteriors of buildings across the United States without the aid of safety ropes or climbing gear.
Roland's career in urban climbing began in 1924, immediately capturing the public's imagination and earning him widespread acclaim. He adopted the moniker "The Human Fly," a popular title also claimed by several other acrobatic performers of the 1920s and 1930s who specialized in similar high-altitude stunts.
