Ellen Creathorne Clayton, also known as Mrs. Needham, was a nineteenth-century author and artist. Born Eleanor Creathorne Clayton in February 1834, she developed a career that combined both literary and visual arts, establishing herself as a versatile creator.\n\nClayton's work was primarily aimed at young readers. She wrote and illustrated her own novels and stories, ensuring a close connection between her narrative prose and her visual art. In addition to fiction, she produced collections of historical biographies, helping to popularize history for youth. She passed away in July 1900.
