Milton Lee Olive III was a United States Army soldier who served during the Vietnam War. Born in November 1946, Olive's military service culminated in a heroic action on October 22, 1965, when he sacrificed his life at the age of eighteen to save others.

During the conflict, Olive saved his companions by falling on a live grenade. For this act of valor, he was awarded the Medal of Honor, America's highest military decoration. Through this sacrifice, Olive became the first African-American recipient of the Medal of Honor from the Vietnam War.
