Henrique Maximiano Coelho Neto was a prominent Brazilian writer and politician whose career spanned the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born on February 20, 1864, he became a highly influential figure in Brazil's cultural and political spheres. Coelho Neto is perhaps best remembered for his foundational role in the establishment of the Brazilian Academy of Letters. In 1897, he helped found the prestigious institution and was chosen to occupy its second chair. He maintained this position for nearly four decades, serving until his death on November 28, 1934. His dedication to the Academy culminated in his election as its president in 1926, cementing his legacy as a pillar of Brazilian literature.
