Chester County, colloquially known as Chesco, is located in the southeastern part of Pennsylvania within the Delaware Valley region. Established in 1682 by William Penn, it is one of the three original counties of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and was named after Chester, England. The county seat is West Chester, while Tredyffrin Township stands as its most populous municipality, and Coatesville is its sole city.
Today, Chester County is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area, with its eastern portion encompassing communities of the Philadelphia Main Line. It is characterized by significant population growth and economic prosperity, ranking as the county with the highest median household income in Pennsylvania as of 2020.
