Desmond Connell was an Irish cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church who served as the Archbishop of Dublin and the Primate of Ireland. Born in 1926, Connell was a prominent figure within the Irish ecclesiastical hierarchy.

Connell's tenure was marked by significant controversy. He was one of several senior clergy members who faced heavy criticism for inaction, making misleading statements, and covering up clerical sex abuse within the Dublin archdiocese. He died on 21 February 2017 at the age of 90.
