Kevin Joseph "Chuck" Connors was an American actor and professional athlete who achieved the rare distinction of playing in both major American sports leagues before embarking on a successful four-decade career in film and television. Born in 1921, Connors is celebrated as one of only thirteen athletes in the history of American professional sports to have played in both the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball.

During his athletic career, Connors played basketball for the Boston Celtics from 1946 to 1948. He then transitioned to professional baseball, appearing on the rosters of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1949 and the Chicago Cubs in 1951.

After his time in professional sports, Connors transitioned to the entertainment industry, where he built a forty-year career in television and film. He is best known for starring as Lucas McCain in the ABC television series The Rifleman, which ran from 1958 to 1963 and became his most defining role.
