Alexandre Corréard was a nineteenth-century French engineer and geographer whose life and career became defined by a historic maritime disaster. A graduate of the engineering school Arts et Métiers ParisTech, Corréard initially pursued a professional path in engineering and geography before surviving the wreck of the French frigate Méduse.\n\nCorréard gained widespread recognition for escaping the tragic shipwreck and subsequently working with the painter Théodore Géricault. He assisted Géricault during the creation of the famous masterpiece, The Raft of the Medusa, providing vital details that helped depict the historical event.
