Sallie Swepson Sims Southall Cotten was an influential American writer, civic organizer, and clubwoman active in North Carolina during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in 1846, Cotten dedicated much of her life to public service and the advancement of women's organizations, playing a pivotal role in the cultural and social development of her home state.
