William John Courthope (1842–1917) was an English writer and historian of poetry. Born as the son of the rector of South Malling in Sussex, he pursued a career dedicated to the study and documentation of English verse.
Active during the Victorian era, Courthope's work centered on the historical development of poetry. He remains recognized for his academic contributions to the history of English literature until his death in 1917.
