Louis-Marie Ernest Daudet was a French journalist, novelist, and historian whose career spanned the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in 1837, Daudet established himself as a highly prolific writer, working across several literary and journalistic genres throughout his lifetime.

Daudet began his professional writing career by contributing to various magazines and provincial newspapers distributed all over France. In addition to his extensive journalistic output and historical writings, he was the older brother of the celebrated French novelist Alphonse Daudet. He continued his diverse literary activities until his death in 1921.
