Born in 1866, Armstrong pursued a career in medicine while simultaneously developing her literary talents. Her writings, which often explored spiritual and natural themes, gained recognition during the early decades of the twentieth century.
Armstrong is best known for her 1904 book, Incense of Sandalwood, a work that highlighted her distinct literary voice and interest in Eastern philosophy. She later collaborated with the well-known American novelist Will Levington Comfort to write Son of Power, published in 1920. This collection of stories, set in India, depicted a deep connection with the natural world and animals, capturing the attention of contemporary readers.
Throughout her life, Armstrong balanced her medical practice with her lecturing and writing. Her chosen pen name, which translates as "Friend of the Earth," reflected her lifelong affinity for nature and her philosophical outlook. She passed away in 1947, leaving behind a unique body of work that merged her professional insights with her literary imagination.
