Ernest Christopher Dowson was an English poet, novelist, and short-story writer active during the late nineteenth century. Despite his short lifespan, he made a highly significant and lasting impression on the literature of the English fin-de-siècle, primarily through his influential Decadent poetry.

Following his death, Dowson's literary contributions were preserved in a notable volume of his collected poetry. This posthumous publication featured illustrations by the artist Aubrey Beardsley and included an introduction written by the poet Arthur Symons, cementing Dowson's association with key figures of the Decadent movement.
