Richard "Dickie" Doyle was a British illustrator who became a key artistic figure of the Victorian era. Born in September 1824, Doyle developed a distinguished career in illustration, leaving a lasting mark on nineteenth-century periodical culture through his distinctive visual style.\n\nHe is most widely recognized for his significant contributions to the satirical publication Punch magazine. Doyle drew the cover for the magazine's historic first issue and went on to design its iconic masthead. This celebrated masthead design proved exceptionally enduring, remaining in continuous use by the publication for over a century. Doyle passed away in December 1883.
