The sgian-dubh, also anglicized as the skene-dhu, is a small, single-edged knife. Its name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic word "sgian," meaning knife. The implement is traditionally worn as an integral part of Scottish Highland dress.
In modern styling, the sgian-dubh is worn tucked into the top of the kilt hose, positioned so that only the upper portion of the hilt remains visible. It is typically worn on the same side of the body as the wearer's dominant hand.
