Margaret Wolfe Hungerford, born Margaret Wolfe Hamilton, was an Irish novelist who achieved widespread popularity during the late nineteenth century. Writing during the Victorian era, she became well-known for her light romantic fiction, which found a large and receptive audience throughout the English-speaking world.
Much of her literary output was published under the pseudonym "The Duchess." Active until her death in 1897, Hungerford's work remains representative of the popular romantic fiction of her time.
