Born on October 14, 1925, Tunnell began his career in state governance during the late 1950s. He served as a state representative for several consecutive terms, holding office from 1957 until 1965.\n\nDuring his tenure in the Texas legislature, Tunnell rose to a key leadership position, serving as the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives from 1963 to 1965. After concluding his service in the House, he transitioned to the Texas Railroad Commission, where he served as a member from 1965 until 1973. Tunnell passed away on March 7, 2000.
