Helen Marion Edginton, who wrote under the pen name May Edginton, was a prolific English novelist and playwright active during the first half of the twentieth century. Born in December 1883, she built a highly successful career in popular fiction, publishing more than fifty novels in London. Her stories resonated widely with readers, and her work was translated into several foreign languages, including Hungarian and Chinese, demonstrating her international appeal.

Beyond her extensive novelistic output, Edginton made significant contributions to the theatre. She authored several plays, which included collaborating with the dramatist Rudolf Besier on two theatrical projects. Her narrative style also proved well-suited for visual media, resulting in the adaptation of several of her fiction works into films.

Edginton's career reflects the vibrant market for popular commercial fiction and drama in early-to-mid 20th-century Britain. She continued writing and publishing throughout her life until her death in June 1957, leaving behind a diverse legacy of popular novels, plays, and cinematic adaptations.
