David Alexander Edwards is a Welsh former professional football player and coach, best known for his long tenure with Wolverhampton Wanderers and his international career representing Wales. Born in 1986, Edwards began his professional career in 2003 with his hometown club, Shrewsbury Town. After spending three full seasons in League Two, he moved to Luton Town in League One in July 2007. Due to financial difficulties at Luton, he was transferred to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2008 for an estimated fee of £675,000.
At Wolverhampton, Edwards established himself as a reliable midfielder, making 307 appearances and scoring 44 goals. During his decade-long association with the club, he was part of the squads that won the Championship in 2009 and League One in 2013, and he competed in the Premier League for three seasons. In 2017, he transferred to Reading, later returning to Shrewsbury Town in 2019, and eventually playing part-time for Bala Town in the Cymru Premier.
On the international stage, Edwards represented Wales, earning 43 caps and scoring three goals between 2007 and 2017. His international career was highlighted by his participation in the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament, where Wales achieved a historic semi-final finish. Following his retirement from playing, Edwards transitioned into coaching and currently serves as the assistant head coach of Shrewsbury Town.
