Mary Ellinor Lucy Archer was a pioneering Australian scientist and librarian who made significant contributions to her country's scientific community during the twentieth century. She is distinguished as the first female scientist to be employed by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), marking a historic milestone for women in Australian science. In addition to her scientific work, Archer had a distinguished career in library science, serving as the chief librarian for the CSIRO from 1923 until 1954. In recognition of her decades of dedicated service to scientific library administration, she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1956.
