Erckmann-Chatrian was the shared pen name of the French writing partnership of Émile Erckmann and Alexandre Chatrian. Throughout their careers, the duo worked in close collaboration, with nearly all of their literary creations being written jointly. Émile Erckmann was born in 1822 and lived until 1899, while Alexandre Chatrian was born in 1826 and died in 1890. Together, they formed a singular identity in French literature, where their combined efforts produced a cohesive body of work that defined their legacy as a collaborative team.
