Evelyn Ward Everett-Green was a highly prolific English novelist active during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in London in 1856, she established a diverse literary career that evolved significantly over the decades. She initially found success writing improving, pious stories designed for children, reflecting the moral tone of her era. As her career progressed, she transitioned into historical fiction tailored for older girls, before eventually finding a broad audience with her adult romantic fiction. Over her lifetime, Everett-Green produced an extraordinarily large body of work estimated at around 350 books. She published more than 200 novels under her own name, while releasing others under a variety of pseudonyms, including H. F. E., Cecil Adair, E. Ward, and Evelyn Dare. Her adaptability across genres and age groups made her a staple of the period's popular literature. She spent her later years in Funchal, Madeira, where she passed away in 1932.
