Patrick Lavon Mahomes II (born September 17, 1995) is an American professional football quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). After playing college football for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, where he won the Sammy Baugh Trophy, Mahomes was selected tenth overall by the Chiefs in the 2017 NFL draft. After spending his rookie season as a backup, he became the starting quarterback in 2018 and quickly established himself as one of the league's premier players, earning both the NFL Offensive Player of the Year and NFL Most Valuable Player awards in his first year as a starter.
Throughout his career, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to historic success, including seven consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances and five Super Bowl appearances. He has won three Super Bowls and was named Super Bowl MVP in each of those victories. He is one of only five quarterbacks in NFL history to win three or more Super Bowls as a starter. In 2020, Mahomes signed a historic 10-year contract extension worth over $450 million, cementing his long-term tenure with the franchise.
Mahomes's career is defined by record-breaking performances, including becoming the first quarterback to throw for over 5,000 yards in both college and the NFL. He also joined Peyton Manning as one of the only players to record 5,000 passing yards and 50 touchdowns in a single NFL season. He is widely considered the best quarterback of his generation and one of the greatest to ever play the position.
