James Thomas Fishback is an American investor and political candidate who has active interests in finance and state-level politics. Born in 1995, Fishback began his professional career in the investment sector, working for the prominent hedge fund Greenlight Capital between 2021 and 2023. Following this tenure, he founded Azoria Partners, an investment management firm. Azoria Partners eventually launched an exchange-traded fund (ETF), though the fund was subsequently shut down by the firm's independent trustees due to emerging legal concerns.\n\nIn addition to his activities in the financial sector, Fishback has actively pursued political opportunities. In the summer of 2025, he attempted to align himself with federal initiatives, which included making claims regarding an advisory role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and launching an unsuccessful bid for a nomination to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. By November 2025, Fishback officially declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 2026 Florida gubernatorial election.\n\nFishback's career has also been accompanied by notable legal and public controversies. These include a 2022 decision by the Broward County School District to sever ties with him and his debate league following personal allegations, which Fishback denied. Additionally, his professional career involved a multi-year dispute with Greenlight Capital regarding his job title, which concluded in 2025 with his admission of having improperly shared and utilized confidential company information.
